An apartment needed some new window shades installed. The needs of the room didn’t allow room for standard interior window coverings, so Mr. Evenstein’s family would need exterior shades.
We counted out motorized shades to begin with. On top of zoning law issues, there was no way to safely install them within budget. We had abundant space under the window’s upper frame to screw in a classic, hand-powered roller. After running Mr. Evenstein through the pros and cons, we also added another set of tracks alongside the pane’s to make sturdier shades. We installed a sheet of thick watertight canvass into place, complete with rollers to fit the tracks. Simple, but effective, and no dangerous scaffolding work was required. We put the new exterior shades through their paces and tested the waterproofing on the tracks before calling our work finished.
